Colour research

Dan Mumford is a relavent illustrator to be looking at as regards to what I want to be aiming towards as regards to colour schemes and stroke detail, I would like to keep the t-shirt illustration of OOAL to a minimum with colour, I do not want to exceed 3 colours.

From what I am able to work out by how Dan does his illustrations is he gets the outline down in black and then simply colours the background of the imagery gold and then further more the background of the whole subject black.

I love this image and it is a great inspiration towards what I want to achieve with my T shirt design, I have all the characters to be incorporated. This image is quite erie which is an outcome I would like to achieve however I believe I have to be careful with the colours used in this particular case and keep them to a minimum for screen printing.
