Title - A 21st century guide to t-shirt printing.

Introduction

So your a illustrator that wants to make some money from t shirts with your designs on.
This book will give an insight of the do's and don'ts and some helpful guides for when it comes to printing.

Chapter one. Style.

There are a number of different styles of illustration around which inspire and influence one to try out the process. Here are a few of my inspirations:

Dan Mumford
Pale Horse design
etc

Chapter two. Audience

You can't just sell a random item on a t-shirt without an audience. Find who you want to reach out to, what music do they like how old are they where do they shop what do they do? SIZE!

Chapter three. Product and wholesale

Depending on the audience results in which product is better, i.e. hoodies, t shirts, vests.
not only this but who from?
-Fruit of the loom - band tees, Experimental
-Continental
-American apparel - in store sell.
(Pros and Cons of each)
-Price guides, material weights etc

Chapter four
Printing for screen.

Go over the different kinds of paper that can be used in printing for screen and how to wash and expose a screen.

Chapter five - The print

Go over how to lay out the t shirts i.e. pin it down, handy marking out tricks so the product can be seen every time etc.

how long to leave it for,
what happens with different inks and how long it takes to dry as well as when to clean a screen.
Gold - 1 tshirt
silver -1 tshirt
blue. purple. white - 2 tshirts max.

Chapter six - baking

The rolling up process and then baking/ ironing + washing.

Chapter seven - Making it professional

So now you have a t shirt printed and it looks fantastic. Well done.
however no one wants it as it is in shops so what do you do? Make a label and tags
Other fixtures etc.

Chapter eight - Store.

To begin with if selling in store dont expect huge prices, a lot of business do sale on return which means you give them the t shirts they sell them and you then come back to see how they sold.

Expected prices for t shirts i.e.
£10 - £25-35

Branching out and finding stores. etc, making more online

Chapter nine - extras.

After a few designs are produced make a look book and send it off to clients and get a business started
-contacts
-visits
= expansion

Chapter ten - Online presence

Contact, website etc.

Chapter eleven - Ever thought about making some more dough?

Get in touch with a local screen print shop and see how much they take for prints.
A design shouldn't just be wasted on a t shirt. A lot of places charge £10 for a print giving at least an £8 profit per print sold.

Chapter twelve - So now what?

Get designing, don't expect that one set of t-shirts will sort you out for life man,
